It is interesting to note that nowadays, we have so many very talented photographers in Malaysia who take beautiful wedding shots. Gone are the days when wedding portraits and photos were taken in a studio, posed very stiff-like in a mannequin manner.

Lately, photographers are even a luckier bunch as they get the opportunities to venture out of the country to far off locations as more and more couples are becoming adventurous, preferring to hold a destination wedding. The end results are wonderfully taken wedding shots that take your breathe away!

For example, we love everything about these wedding photos which is so magazine worthy! We mean, who wouldn't want their wedding portraits taken in Greece. The white -washed houses, the blue skies and seas and the sunny weather provide amazing backdrops for a day shoot. Lucky couple!

Getting married onboard a boat is a great idea with a novelty factor as it is not the usual run of the mill ballroom. Here are some reasons why:

- The party may feel more exclusive as the number of invited guests is smaller

- It's romantic especially if your evening reception is held under the open skies and twinkling stars

- As the boat cruises along, it provides a breathtaking and ever changing backdrop - great for wedding pictures

- You can marry onboard the boat and dock near an island for your wedding reception or vice versa, have your wedding on shore and take your guests on a cruise for the wedding reception

Packing Tips for Destination Weddings

If you are planning a destination wedding, things can get a bit chaotic at the last minute. Packing can especially be a tedious process if you are not used to travelling. There are many things to consider such as the type of destination wedding you are having, the weather at the location, activities you'll be doing. Here are a few packing tips you can follow to ensure some orderly planning when the big day arrives.

1. Write a list of important things you need to bring or pack. Make sure you stick to the list so that you won't be packing more than you need to.

2. Brides, put your beauty products in a double Ziploc bag if possible, before you pack into your check-in luggage. This prevents spillage that could ruin any of your dresses in the luggage.

3. Roll your clothes to make more room in the luggage and put heavier items in first. Smaller items can fill in the holes.

4. Pick the appropriate size for your luggage. This will depend on your length of stay. And make sure the luggage is sturdy enough.

5. Check with the airline for size and weight limitations for luggage. You don't want to be forced to leave any of your things behind at the airport.

6. Keep a photocopy of all your travel documents and ID in your suitcase. You'll be glad to have records of those documents should anything happen to the originals.

7. Leave expensive and precious valuables at home.

{Trends Alert} Bubbly Bubbles

Here's a little bit of goodness we would like to share. As some of you know, confetti and rose petals are a great way to bless and send - off wedding couples. Some may even use them to create magical entrance for the couple. While confetti and rose petals are colourful options, it can also create quite a mess at the wedding venue.

However, there is an alternative to this. If you are having an outdoor wedding such as a garden or beach wedding, we find that couples can easily make an exit or even an entrance through a cloud of bubbles! There's less mess to clean up and it's a pretty inexpensive option. And it's fun to rope in the kids at the wedding to blow bubbles at you, just like in this image.

Here's an idea or inspiration for the day. Candid pictures. What can be more fun than having candid pictures of your guests taken during your wedding day. Here are 3 ideas:

1. Use a Polaroid camera if you can get your hands on one. They take quick pictures and produce fast developing photos. Have it at your reception. Take a picture of your guests candidly. Paste the pictures on your guest books and get them to write a note for you .

2. Place a disposable camera at each reception table. Get the guests at each table to take pictures of themselves having good fun at the wedding. Remind them to leave the cameras behind after the wedding reception or party for you to collect and have it developed. You'll be surprise d at the pictures you'll get.

3. Get a friend or a relative to snap candid photos of your guests at your wedding. Have it developed quickly before the dinner reception and get it displayed for everyone to see just before dinner and have a good laugh at it.

Hanoi is unique as it has retained many of its romantic French colonial heritage influence that is fused with Vietnam's own culture. Guidelines to Inviting Children at Destination Weddings

When you are planning for a destination wedding, you may want to decide if children should be included as part of the guest list. Depending on the location, having children at the event may be too cumbersome. However, here are some tips and guidelines for you to follow:

1. Decide if the location of your destination wedding is child friendly. If it isn't, they should not be included.

2. If you have decided that children should not be included as part of your guest list, do inform and alert your guests with children that it is an adult-only event. This should be done as early as possible so that your guests are able to plan for a babysitter should they decide to attend your wedding.

3. But if you do have children accompanying their parents but not as part of the guests in the ceremony or reception, you may want to provide child-care option to their parents or alert parents to plan for their own child-care.

4. If you include children of one of your relatives or friend, the children of others should also be included as you may not want to be seen as taking sides. Be consistent.

5. Finally, you may want to set an age limit (say 12 and above) for children of your guests that can tag along for the event.

For windy weather, an up-do is the safest bet for your tresses. Pinned tightly and neatly, it keeps hair away from you face and will not get in the way for photo taking. You definitely would not want to look like a mess in the photos.

In hot humid weather, an up-do or a lose up-do is perfect. If you have curly tresses, it keeps your hair from going too frizzy or when you have straight hair, it prevents it from being too flat.

Mild cooling weather allows you to wear your hair anyway you want . You can wear your hair down or even work it up with half up-dos with loose curls. Such weather allows your tresses to keep in better shape.

Of Passports and Visas

Oh yes! These two items are the most important and are not to be overlooked when you are planning for a destination wedding at a foreign location. However, with the running around involved , couples may tend to overlook checking on their passports and visas.

If your wedding location is situated outside of your home country, first thing is to make sure that your passport is valid. Yes, and valid for at least six months before your trip or you may just as well kiss the entire trip good bye! To be on the safe side, if it's due to expire in six months time, best is to have it renewed as soon as possible.

A visa is just as important. Do check if a visa is required in the country where you are holding your destination wedding or even where you are planning to have your honeymoon. Some countries do require a visa and you need to apply through the embassy or consulate and it may take some time to be processed.

So, we do suggest that a few months before you are ready for the wedding, do check on these two items. And do remember, that also you do need a valid passport before being able to apply for any visa.

Love love these retro inspired engagement photos taken in Sabah by Louis Pang. What is it that makes these photos emit volume of retro vibe? The big flowery prints on the dress or is it the dark 60s style sunglasses and hairdo on the bride-to-be?

Remember that accessories like sunglasses are great props for a photo shoot. Even wearing the bright cheery yellow boots won't hurt either and actually adds a whimsical touch. It makes the photos seem light-hearted and the couple seemed like they were having a blast!

Is Having a Reception Back Home Necessary?

While destination weddings are usually small affairs involving immediate family and close friends, we understand that couples may have to face some unhappy family members and friends who may not be invited and feel left out of this intimate event.

A good way to deal with this is to host an informal reception back home for them. The reception need not be lavish and give yourself two weeks after you are back from your destination wedding to plan for it . After all, you would need a break and rest before moving on to the next event.

And remember, it is also best to send out the invitations for this reception at the same time when you send the invitations out for your destination wedding. This saves you time and eases the planning too.

JFT: Which one to you is more important? The look or taste of the cake?
Anizah of TS: It ' s a cake - so it should taste fabulous but it ' s a centrepiece as well, so it also has to look the part!!

JFT: Where can couples get inspiration for their wedding cakes?

Anizah of TS: Couples can incorporate elements of their location - from the local flowers, seashells from the beachside location or the decor of their wedding venue.

Hello! We had a chat with Debra of Acadia Card who does personalised wedding cards. She's been in the business for 8 years with various portfolios that even include corporate clients. Here are some things that we had a chat about.

JFT: What are the popular trends and styles for wedding invites today?
AC: Simple cards that come with embossed wordings, monograms or initials seem popular among wedding couples nowadays. I have more clients requesting for such invites.

JFT: How much should a wedding couple budget for customised invitations?
AC: For a destination wedding, as the number of guests is small, the number of invites required is also smaller than the usual wedding. For a normal wedding, I would advise couples to budget about RM1,200 for a set of 200 customised stationary. On the other hand, for destination weddings, couples should budget about RM800 for 50 sets of customised stationary. A set of stationary may include save the date cards, the invitation, information on the venue or destination of the wedding ceremony, reception and RSVP card, and envelope.

JFT: What ways can couples save money on their wedding invites?
AC: I would advise couples to be practical and use simple designs . Elaborate designs increase costs .

JFT: What is the ideal timeline for ordering wedding invitations?
AC: At least 4 months for traditional wedding. 6 months for destination weddings.

JFT: Now, what do you think are the colour trends for 2010?
AC: I have a few clients who are requesting for red and black colours this year. So I guess the trends for 2010 are traditional yet with bold colours like red and black.

The easiest way is to provide them with good accommodation, even if it is just for one night. Accommodation need not necessarily be expensive. Importantly it has to be clean and near to you wedding venue.

Here are few things you may want to consider when choosing or recommending accommodation for your guests:

If you are having a destination wedding, transporting your wedding gown can be a little tricky. Not only are wedding gowns heavy and bulky, they stain easily due to its colour. It's easy if your destination wedding venue is only a drive away. However, if your venue is located at a far off location that requires you to fly, what is the best way to transport your wedding gown on the plane? Obviously, packing your wedding gown in your luggage bag is not possible.

Here's what you can do. Hand carry your wedding gown in a garment bag onto the plane with you. Ensure that the garment bag is big enough for the gown and foldable for easy storage.

A makeup should make a bride look like herself, but only better. That's one rule of thumb that every bride must follow. However, should you have a destination wedding in the planning, you have to decide if you want to hire a makeup artist who is available at the location of your wedding or bring one from back home with you. Additionally, as most destination weddings are usually held outdoors e.g. beach weddings, here are some things to consider:

- ensure that you make up is lighter than the usual bridal make up to look natural

- use a humidity-proof foundation if you are in a tropical location as you want your makeup to stay on your face

- hairstyles should also go together with your makeup. Go either classic or with a subtle chic that will keep you cool and withstand the heat.

Usually, planning for a destination wedding may take longer than any other wedding due to the location of the wedding itself and the logistics of it all. So, inviting your family and friends to attend you destination wedding may require a bit more of pre-planning on your side.

When it comes to invitation, first things first, be sure to send out a "Save the Date" card especially after you have finalised and confirmed on your wedding plans. 6 months in advance is a good idea. It's a pre-warning to your guests that there is an upcoming wedding....at a location away from home. This gives your guests ample of time to decide if they would like to attend or not.

Secondly, be sure to send out the wedding invitations early. An early invite also provide those who are attending time to plan for their journey there. We feel that 3 months is a good time frame for it.

It is also a good idea to inform guests what attire should theyshould bring and wear to your destination wedding. Guests may not be all too familiar with the climate and weather of your choice location.

Include a clear map of the location of your wedding. This helps if guests are not staying at the same location of your wedding venue. They can easily show the map to a taxi driver if they are hiring one to get there.

While some of us may enjoy a long weekend this week, for the rest it is just peeking around the corner. So for some weekend wedding inspiration, we leave you with a few pictures of wedding aisles. We are not really big fans of wedding aisle runners....it's so yesterday. But as you can see, it is now trendy to walk down a flower-petalled wedding aisle.

We, in fact, love this idea as it can go with the theme of your wedding colours. While real flower petals or freeze-dried ones are more environmentally friendly, you can also use faux petals made out of fabrics that will last longer.

But first thing first, do check out from your venue provider if they do allow petals to be used as a wedding aisle runner as some do have strict rules about it, especially in churches and on the beach.

Our next trend alert is all about dressing up your chairs for your wedding guests. The trends seem to point more towards using fresh flowers and ferns to decorate chair-backs. Pick flowers that are in season as choosing those that are not may be too costly. Additionally, if you are having an outdoor wedding such as a beach or garden wedding, it is important to ask the florist which flowers are suitable especially in our warm and humid Asian weather. Withered flowers are definitely not a pretty sight during weddings.

How beautiful is this destination wedding! We are inspired by the colour blue today. The bold aqua blue colour and great little details are refreshing to the eye. As these wedding pictures make such great inspiration, we just had to feature them here!

Firstly, take good care of yourself. With all the stress and rushing around planning for a destination wedding, you are bound to fall sick. Take your vitamins, excercise and practise good hygiene. Drink plenty of water and have enough sleep to keep your energy levels high.

Secondly, purchase insurance to cover the cost of the trip of your wedding. You can never be too sure when a natural disaster may strike your wedding locations, jeopardising your wedding plans.

Thirdly, hire a professional wedding planner to manage and organise your weddings as they are in the know what to do next should anything goes wrong as it will be a daunting task for you to handle by yourself.

Sunset weddings are beautiful and provide great backdrop for wedding pictures. Instead of having your usual daytime wedding, it will be a great idea to say your vows outdoors during sunset for a change. This can then be followed by a dinner reception afterwards.

But when planning for a sunset wedding, here are a few things to consider and be mindful of.

- When you book the location and venue for your wedding, make sure that it experiences sunset. You don't want to be disappointed at the last minute.

- Ask your wedding photographers beforehand if they have done sunset shots before as you want them to be able to capture the striking colours and golden hues of the sunset.

- Decide if you prefer to have the sun setting during the wedding ceremony or after the ceremony.
